By the time she endeared herself to fans as Barney Fife's girlfriend "Thelma Lou," Kansas City, Missouri native Betty Lynn was already well known in film, stage, radio, and television. She entertained the troops in World War II, and in the late 1940's, Betty was a contract player for Twentieth Century Fox and appeared in several movies, including: "Sitting Pretty" with Clifton Webb, "Father Was a Fullback," "Cheaper by The Dozen," and "Behind The High Wall."

Betty also had numerous roles on television, including Brian Keith's secretary on "Family Affair" and Fred McMurray's secretary on "My Three Sons." Additionally, she appeared on "Texas John Slaughter," "Lawman," "Wagon Train," "Bronco," "Little House on the Prairie," and "Matlock." In 1986, Betty reunited with Don Knotts as "Thelma Lou" in the television movie "Return to Mayberry."
A favorite among TAGS fans, Betty is known for her easygoing manner and down-to-earth charm. She was recently guest of honor at the 2nd Annual Mayberry Squad Car Nationals in Brent, Alabama, and also appeared with Howard Morris in a dinner theatre performance of A. R. Gurney's "Love Letters" in Mt. Airy, North Carolina.
