The Dillards
Fans of bluegrass music are in for a real treat! Doug Dillard and Rodney Dillard, are here at "Mayberry In The Midwest."
From humble beginnings in the Ozarks, the incredibly talented Dillards established a unique place in music history. Just a short time after their arrival in Hollywood in 1962, The Dillards were signed by Electra and recorded their first album, "Back Porch Bluegrass."
Soon after, TAGS associate producer Richard Linke contacted Electra records and arranged an audition for the band. After playing half a tune, The Dillards were hired as the silent but musically inclined mountain family "The Darlings" on "The Andy Griffith Show." As members of the Darling household, the boys were joined by Maggie Peterson as "Charlene Darling" and veteran actor Denver Pyle as "Briscoe Darling. The Dillards' music brought a distinctive flavor to the show, and Andy Griffith allowed the Dillards to perform their own music whenever possible.
As the 1960's progressed, The Dillards style expanded and evolved into bluegrass rock, and the group underwent various changes in lineup throughout the years. The Dillards remain active in the music industry today.
